EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS
All Educational Programs are flexible and may be tailored to fit unique academic situations. Classes and workshops may also include brief performances and question and answer sessions. All of our programs have been designed on the ideals set forth in the National Standards for Music Education.
PERFORMANCE CLASS (grades 4-collegiate)
The Alliance Brass will present a shortened version of their standard concert program for the current season. Members of ABQ will discuss the music performed, giving historical context about the composer and the work in addition to interesting facts about each individual work. The Performance Class will also include a Question & Answer session.
BREATHING and BUZZING to BEAUTIFUL SOUNDS (grades 4-collegiate)
This workshop will cover basic aspects of brass playing in a manner accessible to non-brass players and brass professionals alike. This participatory session will work through an efficient breath to creating a solid “buzz” on a mouthpiece, and into great sounds from your students. Many of the skills and exercises to be discussed in this session will also be beneficial to other wind instrumentalists.
CREATING a CAREER in MUSIC (grades 11-collegiate)
This workshop is designed for advanced high school and collegiate students who are intending to pursue a career as a professional musician. Over the years, the brass quintet genre has provided players with the opportunity to push the boundaries of musicality and virtuosity in the brass community. This class presents the history of the brass quintet from our earliest known works through today’s compositions. Additionally, we will discuss the various relevant ensembles and how they helped to shape the genre and how they used their repertoire to advance the genre.
